PILANESBERG / SAFARI (NOV 5-6)

We go two days north to Pilanesberg National Park for safari. The animals are most active early in the morning and at sunset. That's why we do both sunrise safari and sunset safari. In Pilanesberg there is a chance to see many wild species, including all the "big five".

In Pilanesberg we stay at Legae la Tshepo bed & breakfast.

SOWETO / JOHANNESBURG (7-10 NOV)

We stay at Lebo's Soweto backpacker in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Soweto, one of South Africa's largest townships. We get to know South African youth and young adults and hear about their everyday lives, challenges and dreams and participate in activities with them at the Soweto YMCA. On a bike ride through Soweto we meet people in different life situations, reflect on differences, learn some phrases and taste traditional food. In Johannesburg we visit the Apartheid Museum and South Africa's Supreme Court Constitutional Hill. To understand South Africa today, we need to know its history.

CAPE TOWN (11–15 NOV)

The last part of the trip we stay in Cape Town. We visit Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, with a guide who himself was imprisoned here as a political prisoner. We climb the characteristic Table Mountain, stroll among the colorful houses of Bo Kaap and explore the Observatory's many vintage shops. In one of Cape Town's YMCAs we meet young people and hear their opinion about the challenges and opportunities in “The Rainbow Nation” 30 years after Apartheid was officially abolished. You will also have the opportunity to surf in Muizenberg and swim with penguins at Boulder's beach. We stay within walking distance of the well-known Waterfront. Before we turn our noses back home, we go to jam at Fat Harry's and watch the sunset from Signal Hill.
