A Folk High School – in the middle of everything!

Oslo Folkehøgskole Rønningen is a folkehøgskole in the middle of everything: In the middle of Oslo, in the middle of life, in the middle of community, in the middle of faith and doubt and in the middle of the world as it is. We believe that safe communities create whole people.

BASIC RULES

The folk high school is our home. And we need some common rules of the road to create safety and well-being for everyone who lives here. When you accept a place at the school, you commit to following these rules. The students are adults, our collaboration is built on freedom and trust – that gives the best growth.

OUR VALUES

Oslo Folkehøgskole Rønningen should be a place where people can land, grow, explore and contribute. Our values are honest, courageous and present. They characterize our everyday life, both in core subjects, common subjects and electives, and are expressed in how we build community, meet each other and create space for development.

HONESTY At our school, people should be allowed to be real. Honesty is about meeting each other with truth, trust and respect. We practice being honest with ourselves, honest in relationships, and honest in meeting the world.

BRAVE Brave is not about being fearless – but about daring, trying, participating and standing up for what is good and right. We believe people grow when they are challenged, well supported and given the space to try again.

PRESENCE Presence is about presence in relationships, space for listening and a willingness to see each other. It is also about being present in the world: in nature, in local communities and in global issues. Presence is about presence in relationships, space for listening and a willingness to see each other – and about being present in the world, locally and globally.

OUR PROFILE

Oslo Folkehøgskole Rønningen is a Christian, green and global school. We are an independent school, established on a Christian basis, and base our activities on the Christian faith and the values of YWCA-YCW Norway.

CHRISTIAN We are based on Christian faith and the values of the YWCA-YFUM: open, courageous, developing, fair and safe. We welcome students with different faiths and backgrounds. For us, Christian roots mean an inclusive and value-based community, not a requirement for personal faith.

GREEN As a green school, we take the environment and sustainability seriously – in teaching, operations and everyday choices. We want to create awareness about nature, climate and consumption, and equip students to make responsible choices for the future.

GLOBAL Being global means that we raise our sights. Through travel, partnerships, cultural exchange and a diverse student environment, students encounter international perspectives. We want to strengthen understanding of the world, solidarity and global justice.

OUR OWNERS

Oslo Folkehøgskole Rønningen is owned by YFUK-KFUM, one of Norway's largest children's and youth organizations and part of the global YMCA/YWCA movement. YFUK-KFUM works to ensure that children and young people develop as whole people – with spirit, soul and body – in open and safe communities.
