Sometimes plans don't go quite as planned. A six-month course at Oslo Folkehøgskole gives you new impulses, academic challenges and new acquaintances – without having to commit to a whole year. What's it like to start in the middle of a school year?

At the start, you become part of the class environment and follow the program for the course as it is implemented as a full-year course. Even though you start in the middle of the school year, you become a natural part of the community and get to take part in the same activities and experiences as the full-year students – both academically and socially.

How much does half a year at a folk high school cost?

Half a year at a folk high school costs NOK 74,050 for the 2026/2027 school year. The enrollment fee is included in the total.

Can I get support from the Lånekassen for six months at a folk high school?

Yes, you can apply for support from the Loan Fund even if you only attend for half a year. For the 2026/2027 school year, you can receive up to 77,440 kroner from the Loan Fund. This means that you are usually left with a little extra after the school fees have been paid. You can find more information about support schemes and payments on the Loan Fund's website. What trips can I join and when do they take place?

Which trips you can take part in depends on which semester you are a student with us.

At the start of the fall semester, the whole school goes on a joint overnight trip to Nordmarka. In the fall, you will also have the opportunity to take part in an optional, longer study trip to Asia, Africa, South America or the Middle East.

In the spring semester, each line travels on its own line trip to a European city. This trip is included in the school fee. You can read more about the line trips on the line pages. Towards the end of the semester, we end the school year with a joint trip to Strandheim camp.
